What is a wiki?

Who is Wikireadia for?
Librarians, teachers, teaching assistants, parents, trade unions, charity workers, employers. In fact, anyone who is involved in teaching, encouraging or improving reading.
This is a place for you to share the reading projects you are running in your workplace, the process, outcomes and value of those projects. It is also a place to find inspiration from others who have existing projects you might like to join or similar projects which you might like to set up in your area.
Wikireadia is created and used by you, and you should feel proud you’ve been a part of sharing your good practice and passing on your valuable experiences.
How do I contribute/ edit an article?
- Search Wikireadia first to make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject, perhaps under a different title.
- Please don't create pages about yourself or your friends, pages that advertise, or personal essays.
- Be careful about the following: copying things and controversial material.
- Gather references to reliable sources and evidence to back up your case studies.
- Create a new page.

What makes a good article?
In short: facts and figures. The whos, the whats, the wheres and the whens.
The more precise you can make your article the better.
Readers will want to know:
- the aims of the project
- the background to the project (why it was initiated)
- precisely what happened or happens during the project
- and what the outcomes were – quantify this if you can. Figures speak louder than opinions sometimes.
Keep it as short as you can without losing detail. If you make your article long and wordy you’ll lose your readers and the potential of spreading the word about the fantastic project you were part of.
Keep it clear. Be clear about the aims and outcomes of the project. What was it about your project that worked? What made it successful? What was the impact on the people you were trying to reach?

Wikireadia is a product of the 2008 National Year of Reading. All content on the site is covered by a Creative Commons license, which states the information on the site may be shared and used by others. However, no work on the site can be used for commercial purposes.

Why have I been blocked?
There may be several reasons for this. It may be due to automatic block by the software or because you have breached the terms of use of this site. If you feel you have been blocked wrongly, leave a message on the talk page expressing your thoughts and an administrator will take a look and take appropriate action. Please be sure to include your IP address which you can find in the block message.
Why am I having problems logging in?

- Please be sure to type in your valid username and password taking care to turn on/off Caps Lock as appropriate.
- Avoid copying your username or password to log in as they might include unwanted characters.
- If you have been blocked from this site, you will no longer be able to log in.
How do I change the name of an article?
You move the article using the "move" button (to the right of the "edit this page" button). You must have an account, and it must be at least four days old to move pages. If the move is controversial or fails with an error message, visit Requested moves.
